What is the difference between available and capable to promise?

When it comes to providing accurate shipment and delivery dates for customer orders, available-to-promise (ATP) processing considers existing material on hand for both purchased and manufactured items – the available inventory quantity (not necessarily the quantity on hand) is greater than or equal to the quantity on the order. Capable to promise (CTP) differs from ATP in that CTP also accounts for inbound purchase receipts, supplier lead times, alternative sourcing options, and raw material, production, and labor availability.
