E21 ERP goes beyond other wholesale distribution software systems with its built-in support for kitting and light manufacturing assembly operations. Thanks to integrated bill of material management, manufacturers and wholesale distributors can define all components associated with their pickable kits. When a kit product is ordered, E21 automatically inserts the components of that kit on the sales order. Then, with the integrated E21 ERP warehouse management system, kit components can subsequently be picked with RF and barcode scanning devices. Any special notes and instructions associated with the assembly process are also made visible either on pick tickets or on the scanning devices themselves.

Assembled and manufactured kits

With integrated manufacturing assembly software, E21 ERP also enables manufacturers and wholesale distributors to treat their kitting operation as a manufacturing process in which the kit is built through a work order. In these instances, organizations can leverage E21’s support for manufacturing routings to define not only the material components but the labor and overhead cost elements associated with the kitting process as well. What’s more, by utilizing E21’s ERP MRP software functionality, a tentative production schedule can be generated for manufactured kits based on actual and forecasted demand.

Assembly processes can either be performed within the given organization or as outside operations by a third-party company. If the assembly process is outsourced to a third party, E21 can generate a purchase order for the assembly services performed and shipping documents for sending the raw materials and components to be consumed to the third-party assembler.
