Why is integrated demand forecasting software so important?

With the need to meet customer-required order and line-item fill rates and the evolution of complex promotional calendars, distributors and manufacturers are forced to ensure the right products are stocked at the right times. As such, leveraging advanced demand and production forecasting software tools that utilize data directly from an ERP system database becomes critical to meet such requirements while keeping inventory costs low.

As a fully integrated manufacturing and distribution ERP software system, E21 ERP delivers advanced forecasting functionality to account for seasonal demand trends.

The solution provides the ability to generate forecasts across multiple data dimensions, including:

Geography — from as detailed as 9-digit postal codes to as aggregated as user definable regions
Time periods — from as detailed as a day to as aggregated as a year, with up to 365 different periods in any forecast
Customers — from as detailed as an individual customer ship-to location through any one of four additional user-defined customer hierarchal aggregate levels
Products — from as detailed as an individual SKU through any of four additional user defined product hierarchal aggregate levels
Historical date range — each forecast can analyze a unique set of historical date ranges to utilize as E21’s forecasting algorithms apply a best fit

Each time a forecast is generated, E21 runs a series of statistical forecasting algorithms to determine which of the various demand and sales forecasting methods represents the best fit for the historical data. It then chooses this forecasting technique to project future demand. As a result, several different forecasting techniques may be utilized in a given forecast since the best forecasting technique is chosen for each product, customer, time period, and geographical data combination. Once generated, forecasts can be manually overridden if desired and are then used as data inputs to E21’s integrated ERP MRP software processes.

E21 ERP also provides for the ability to generate customer-specific forecasts at the customer and product levels. Each time E21 generates a forecast, based on settings on the customer master, a unique forecast record will be generated for those customers flagged to have a separate forecast, allowing sales teams to collaborate with the planning department to finalize the forecast in the system.

What’s more, forecasting in E21 ERP is integrated with E21’s built-in EDI software and available EDI VAN services. Should a customer wish to supply the organization with an EDI 830 document (Planning Schedule with Release), E21 has the backend in place to handle the transaction with no add-ons, bolt-ons, or third-party service providers.
