The E21 general ledger offers a flexible, user-defined chart of accounts structure that is combined with a series of source journals. The structure supports multi-level account definition and consolidation with real-time access to overall cash flow and profitability.

By design, the general ledger supports flexible period definition and automated period-end processing. It supports multiple companies, legal entities, divisions, and cost centers. This multi-level design delivers robust audit support with drill-down capability, allowing for retrieval of all data from a summary level down to the detailed transactional level.

Easy period and year-end processing

The E21 ERP accounting software system enables flexible and automated period and year-end processing. The system allows for each business’ unique fiscal period definition. An infinite number of periods can be open at any time, and with appropriate security privileges, closed accounting periods can be reopened for making correcting entries. Once these correcting entries are made, adjusted balances are rolled forward automatically without the need to reopen other previously closed accounting periods.

Unlike other systems, E21’s general ledger includes a fiscal year definition such that business processing can occur in a new fiscal year without closing and zeroing out values in the prior fiscal year. This capability allows companies to run year-end processing multiple times while ensuring transactional integrity in the new business year.

As a fully integrated ERP system, E21’s general ledger is designed to work in tandem with the E21 ERP inventory management system. E21 tightly monitors and tracks all cost elements of a given product, whether manufactured or purchased. E21 supports multiple costing methods, including standard, FIFO, LIFO, and average costing. For manufactured items, material cost components, labor, and overhead costs are rolled up automatically to provide a fully-costed bill of materials. With E21’s built-in intercompany management, the system automatically tracks inventory transfer costs with the ability to associate additional transfer costs, such as freight, with the transfer and roll those costs into the actual item cost.

Built-in corporate cash management

With E21, corporations can elect to manage and perform accounts payable and accounts receivable operations at a corporate level via built-in corporate cash management functionality. In doing so, the associated accounts payable or accounts receivable transactions roll up to the higher-level business entity, where the actual payment or posting of cash processes take place, respectively.

E21 also reflects the completion of processing for the detailed transactions at the lower-level business entity and manages the associated intercompany financial transactions in accordance with GAAP standards. Corporate cash processing can be critical for executing timely payments and optimizing a corporation’s overall cash management position.

Multi-currency enabled

E21 ERP manages multinational operations and multi-currency transactions with exchange rate updates and currency conversions. E21 provides a variety of exchange rate options to support efficient processing while complying with GAAP. Exchange rates may be pulled into the system from an automatic data feed or entered manually, and currency conversion application types can be defined as yearly, monthly, or daily.

In addition, E21 automatically determines unrealized gain or loss due to currency rate fluctuations and restates financial information at the new exchange rate.
