Manually maintaining current sales tax data in an ERP system can be daunting for any organization. However, with the E21 ERP Avalara integration, sales tax calculations occur in real time during order entry and invoicing.

Thanks to the Avalara integration, there is no need to maintain sales tax data directly in the ERP system; everything is handled with simple, built-in API calls made to Avalara’s AvaTax platform.

The E21 ERP Avalara integration takes data maintained in the ERP system associated with products, customers, customer bill-to’s, and customer ship-to’s and passes this information to the AvaTax platform for the sales tax calculation to occur. In addition, customer tax exemption certificates can be maintained in E21 at the country, state, county, and city levels. These exemption IDs are then passed to Avalara, ensuring only the right customers are charged sales tax on a given transaction.

In addition to the Avalara integration, other features of the E21 ERP system can be utilized to help you comply with tax regulations. E21’s included ERP document management solution can be used to attach customer tax exemption certificates directly to customer records and alert users when these documents are nearing their expiration.

The system also features a built-in audit log of all data passed to and from the AvaTax platform. With these features and Avalara’s built-in tax reporting capabilities, manufacturers and distributors are armed with the data required in the event of an audit.

Organizations choosing not to utilize the Avalara integration can maintain sales tax data directly in E21, with GL accounts defined for each taxing authority. The system also supports international tax requirements with user-defined sequencing for how sales tax should be calculated and applied.

Integrated with the GL for easy reconciliation and filing

With E21’s flexible chart of accounts structure, manufacturers and distributors can opt to create unique general ledger accounts for each taxing authority. When invoicing occurs in E21, the system automatically associates the taxing authority returned from Avalara with the proper general ledger account. This information can then be used to reconcile tax filing data in Avalara with specific E21 general ledger account balances.

The E21 integration with Avalara extends beyond the core ERP system. For organizations leveraging E21’s built-in B2B and B2C ERP e-commerce software, sales tax calculations occur automatically before online order placement. These tax values are ultimately brought into E21 automatically when an online order is placed. Moreover, customer sales tax exemptions are automatically synced from the ERP system to the e-commerce platform, ensuring only specific customers are charged tax.
